Ferguson achieves Scouting’s highest rank

MT. VERNON — Not everyone who begins Boy Scouts finishes. In fact, for every 100 Scouts, 30 of the them will drop out. Leland Ferguson, 17, of Mt. Vernon is not one of them. Ferguson achieved Scouting’s highest honor on Monday night at St. Mary Church, receiving the Eagle award. Only three out of every 100 Scouts achieve the Eagle award.Ferguson, who has attained 38 merit badges, became the fifth Eagle to come out of Troop 103 — following Dylan Glowicki, Devon Riley, Jeffrey Wright and Nick Neubauer. Michael Wright recently finished his work toward the Eagle but a formal presentation has not been made, according to troop leaders.”I want to thank these awesome people (leaders) for everything they’ve done,” Ferguson said in accepting the award. “I want to thank my parents, fellow Scouts, leaders and my church.”Ferguson attends Victory Christian Center and will graduate this spring.
