HUNTSVILLE, Ala (WHNT) — Jacob Shaffer’s saga in court is over. Tuesday, Madison County Circuit Judge Karen Hall sentenced him to life in prison without parole.
In court, Shaffer said he was sorry for the crime and that he deserves the punishment he’s been given.
Shaffer pleaded guilty to capital murder in the death of Sidney Wade Dempsey. He had a brief trial on Monday, which is required by Alabama law for anyone who pleads guilty to capital murder.
A jury found Shaffer guilty on Monday, deliberating for about 30 minutes.
Prosecutors called the crime especially heinous, noting Shaffer used a stun gun to immobilize Dempsey before beating him to death. The body was later found stuffed in a barrel.
