A Rose By Any Other Name…Coretta

ATLANTA (WAOK)-Coretta Scott King, the widow of the the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.  has a rose that bears her name.

The rose made its debut Saturday in observance of what would have been Coretta Scott King’s 86th birthday. According to the Edmunds’ Roses website the flower is a delectable treat for the eyes. Reminescent of a creamsicle treat, long, pointed buds spiral open to reveal creamy white blooms blushed with tropical tones of coral-orange.  Cool temperatures bring out the best color.

The rose bushes were planted at the King Center under the historic pecan tree.  They were also planted at the State Capitol, at the campuses of Morehouse and Spelman colleges and in Birmingham’s Kelly Ingram Park.

A book authored by the sister of Coretta Scott King, Edythe Scott Bagley was titled Desert Rose and detailed Scott King’s
